Blind Dog Gets So Excited When She Senses Her Favorite Person’s Nearby
Grace, a gentle senior dog, is living proof that love doesn’t rely on sight to be felt deeply. This precious pup, now 12 years old, faced a life-altering moment when she was diagnosed with a painful eye condition that eventually claimed her vision. Under the guidance of her veterinarian, Grace underwent surgery to have both eyes removed.
“We knew it was the best way to keep her comfortable and free of pain,” shared Shelby Salmela, Grace’s devoted mom, in an interview with Us.
Grace has a special place in her heart for Salmela, yet her bond with another family member — Salmela’s mother, Grace’s beloved “grandma” — remained unshaken, even after her surgery.
Before she lost her sight, Grace would race into her grandma’s arms with boundless joy. And though her vision is gone, that joyful anticipation is still there whenever Grandma comes to visit.
“It’s adorable to see the pure excitement Grace shows when she realizes that the person at the door is her GG,” Salmela remarked.
Each time Grandma wraps her arms around Grace, it’s a reminder that, while Grace’s world may seem cloaked in darkness, it’s still filled with the light of love and familiarity.
Even with one less sense, Grace’s ability to love remains unbreakable.
In some ways, Grace’s lack of sight has perhaps kept her grandma ever-present in her heart, filling the gap with memories of their cherished bond.
“Grace’s grandma moved out of state three years ago, so we only get to see her about six times a year now,” Salmela explained. “But Grace is deeply attached. We do FaceTime calls daily, and even just hearing my mom’s voice gets her tail wagging with excitement.”
Though Grace may have lost her vision, her heart never lost its way.
