Luna’s family adopted her in September 2019 and they have been her family ever since. She is very protective of her people and likes to follow them everywhere – even when they leave the house.
“She loves walking with us,” Luna’s mom, Heather Lucier, told The Dodo. “She’ll lead the way and make sure we follow the path she wants us to take often! It’s really cute and people in the neighborhood tell me it’s the cutest thing they’ve ever seen…she used to follow us to pick up the 2020 kids’ free school lunch, followed us across the road to the other side of the school and I thought, make sure we’re all right and go home again because we’ve been with her for months.”
Now that Luna’s human siblings are back in face-to-face school, she loves taking them there whenever possible. They lived right around the corner from the school, so it was very easy to walk, and now everyone at the school recognized Luna and loved seeing her there. It was never a problem – until Luna decided she wanted more.
One day, Luna decides that instead of just sending her humans to school, she wants to take lessons with them. She started trying to sneak into the school – but unfortunately, everyone knew her, so when the school called her mom, her plans quickly fell through.
“When I realized it was the front desk, I freaked out and thought one of my kids was injured or sick,” Lucier said. “Thank goodness they called and said, ‘While I love Luna and have no problem hanging out with her…she’s trying to follow people into school.’ I apologized repeatedly, then actually put on my jacket and ran over to Luna, so as not to She’s in any real trouble! I appreciate that the caller laughs and tells me that Luna is cute and it’s not a problem…except trying to sneak into the school.”
Lucille rushes to the school before Luna actually gets in – and as soon as she arrives, Luna pretends nothing happened.
“When I yelled ‘LUNA! Who’s running? Luna meows merrily with her tail up in excitement, flying across the grass towards me,” Lucier said.
Lucier was able to lure Luna home with the promise of food, and now that she’s been caught, she knows she won’t be able to get into a school that day anyway. As soon as Luna’s human siblings got home from school, their mom told them about Luna’s adventures, and they loved it.
“My son laughed and said he wanted her to come to his class because he had a class pet in his class and it would be cool to bring Luna into the class because it was so much cooler than a photo,” Lucier said.
Fortunately, there is still hope – because there is no doubt that Luna will sneak into the school again one day.
